Sweet Basil microgreens are one of the most flavorful and aromatic microgreens to grow.
As a microgeens, sweet basil has a stronger and slightly sweeter taste than the mature plant.
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Germination: 3-5 days
Total grow: 12-18 days
- Lay a thin layer of moist coco peat and perlite mixture in a tray, about half the depth of the tray. Mist the surface of the grow medium
- Cover the surface area with seeds. Roughly 7 grams for our standard 28x40x7cm grow tray.
- Press down firmly and mist with water.
- Ad another tray (preferably without holes) on top of the seeds. This helps to form strong roots and get rid of unwanted seed hulls. No need for excess weight in the form of tiles like other varieties
- Seeds are mucilaginous (having a viscous or gelatinous consistency) so don’t worry about them sticking to the top tray
- Keep wet with a spray bottle until all seeds have germinated. Remove top tray and flip over to place greens into blackout. This helps the stems to lengthen.
- After about 2 days place the tray into light. This could be into artificial light, sunlight. An exposed windowsill will work just fine.
- Make sure they have enough water each day. They should be ready between 14 and 20 days
