What grow medium
is best for you?

When selecting grow medium for microgreens or any growing practices, it is important to know the characteristics of the medium and its uses. Coco Peat, vermiculite, and Perlite are extremely clean and free of harmful chemicals. 

The process :

Our recommended mix : 1 kg Coco Peat : 6-7 L water : 2 L Perlite : 1 L Vermiculite

In a clean container, add 1 kg Coco Peat, add 6 to 7 litres of water. The peat will expand and soak up all the water. Make sure there are no dry bits. Then add 2 litres of Perlite and 1 litre of vermiculite and mix. This should be enough for 5 to 6 standard 53 x 27 x 3 cm grow trays.

Vermiculite is a mineral (aluminum-iron, magnesium) that is mined and processed into layered like granules

– Improves water and nutrient uptake and distribution to promote plant growth.

Perlite
Horticultural
Grade

Perlite ore, derived from volcanic rock. When heated to extremely high temperatures it expands or pops. It then becomes a very lightweight porous pebble like structure.

– Maintains aeration and drainage to the roots.

– Perlite is added to grow mixes and improves overall characteristics of organic substrates like peat, compost, bark etc.

– Used for young plants, seedlings, grow mixes etc.

– pH 7 – 7.5

Coco Peat
Horticultural
Grade

Coco Peat is derived from the outer layer of the coconut husk. It is compressed to form layer like blocks. When water is added, the blocks expand into a fine fibrous grow medium.

– Coco Peat is used as a growing medium or added to mixes for moisture retention.

– It is a fine and fibrous medium that holds moisture well.

– It is used for various crops and improves overall quality of the growing medium.

– For microgreens, use in combination with perlite to ensure aeration of the roots.

– Also used in hydroponics, aquaponics, outdoor growing etc.
