Fodder pea variety for pea shoots. Grown for its large foliage and high protein content. Fresh Pea flavour and great texture. Perfect for salads, wraps burgers, etc.
Quite different to Maple and Green Pea. Fodder Pea shoots are larger with shorter tendrils. It is a high yielding crop with bigger foliage. They grow slightly quicker than the Maple and Green Pea.
Difficulty level: Easy
Germination: 3-5 days
Total grow: 12-14 days
Sow weight: 170 grams per standard 53 x 27 x 3 cm grow tray
1. Soak pea seeds in water overnight (6-8 hrs). Enough seeds to cover your growing surface. Roughly 170 grams for a standard 53x27x3cm tray
2. Lay a thin layer of coco peat and perlite mixture in a tray. You can also add compost to the grow mix for added nutrients. Cover the surface area with seeds. Ad another tray (preferably without holes) on top of the seeds. Add some weight in the form of a small tile or stone. This helps to form strong roots and get rid of unwanted seed hulls.
3. Keep wet with a spray bottle until all seeds have germinated and start to lift the top tray. Remove top tray and flip over to place greens into blackout. This helps the stems to lengthen.
4. After about 2 days place the tray into light. This could be into artificial light, sunlight. An exposed windowsill will work just fine.
5. Make sure they have enough water each day. They should be ready within 12 to 14 days
Growing Notes:
Watch the seeds closely while germinating. If any mouldy seeds appear, remove them immediately. If you have Hydrogen Peroxide available, spray the infected spot with the solution.
