Neem Oil is a natural pesticide found in the seeds of the Neem Tree, Azadirachta indica Juss. Neem oil is used to repel unwanted pests that harm and damage plants. Fit for use in organic growing practises.

How does it work?

The most active component in neem oil is Azadirachtin. Azadirachtin interferes with the insect’s hormone system and disrupts the growth cycle, limiting insects ability to grow and reproduce. After ingesting, the insect becomes almost inactive and stops consuming. Thus, limiting the insect’s feeding ability and therefore limiting the damaging effect on plants.

What insects/animals does Neem Oil effect?

Neem Oil is used to control a wide range of pests like fruit flies, white flies, aphids , spider mites, scale insects, weevils, leafhoppers etc. Neem Oil effects the insects that chew on plants and consume them. Neem Oil does not effect pollinators like bees, butterflies and ladybugs.  Neem oil is also non-toxic to birds, mammals and plants. However, can be moderately toxic to fish and other aquatic animals.

Directions for use:

For use on plants, dilute 1 to 3 tsp of Organic Neem Oil with 500ml of water. Spray infected parts of the plant or infected areas of the soil. Repeat twice a week if necessary. Store upright in a cool dark place away from heat and light.

Generally not used on microgreens. However, wouldn’t have a negative effect on them. They might not taste very good. 

Safety Hazard: Although non-toxic for humans. It can cause moderate irritation to skin, eyes and stomach. So, it would be best to avoid ingestion and contact with skin and eyes. No need to consume Neem Oil. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
