Leeks-Carentan
Carentan Leeks are a incredibly old European leek variety. They are a annual vegetable with long, white stems and broad, flat leaves, tightly wrapped to form a tall cylinder shape. Commonly used in soups and stews. Exceptionally hardy in most climates and wonderful space savers.

Growing notes:
Leeks require consistent watering and very loose fertile soil but are a consistently hardy crop with high yields. Start by sowing in seed trays or punnets until the leek is about 20cm tall. Then plant out into trenches or individual deep holes close together, the aim is to blanch the stems while the plants are growing. Water thoroughly to ensure moist soil while growing. Harvest when the stems are about 2 cm in diameter. They do not suffer much from pests and diseases.

Leeks are known for their unique flavor and versatility in the kitchen, and are considered a staple ingredient in many kitchens. Leeks are also rich in vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds.
Origin:
Carentan Leeks originate from the town of Carentan in Normandy, France. The Leek is also the national emblem of Wales, because of it’s widespread use and popularity, not just in Wales, but throughout Europe.
