Borage-Azure Blue

Borage Azure Blue is an annual plant producing leaves that taste like cucumber and produces edible flowers . Borago officinalis is an annual herb of the family Boraginaceae. These flowers can be used in summery drinks, salads, sandwiches and deserts.

Borage flowers are very attractive to bees which makes them great to plant to increase pollination of neighbouring crops.

Soil: Use soil that has moderate organic matter.  Secondly, make sure soil has enough drainage to allow water to drain freely.
Sowing: Year Round
Germination: 7-14 days
Days to flowering: 120-140 days
Position: Sun/Partial shade
Spacing: 30 x 30 cm
Sow Depth: 3mm
Height: 70-100 cm
Growing Notes:
Sow seeds in early spring after threat of frost. Plant in full sun to ensure lots of flowers and strong stems.
Uses:
Firstly, young leaves are grinded up and used in teas. Secondly, use vibrant blue flowers in summery drinks, salads, sandwiches and deserts. Furthermore, Borage seed oil is used is produced commercially for use in health supplements.
Origin:
Native to the Mediterranean, however grown across the world today.  Borage has many medicinal and culinary applications.
