Alfalfa Microgreens
Alfalfa microgreens. They have an earthy lettuce flavour. They are great used fresh on burgers, wraps, salads etc. They are also a very nutritious microgreen packed with nutrients. Great for sprouting as well.
Difficulty level: Easy
Germination: 2-3 days
Total grow: 10-14days
Sow weight: 15 grams per standard 53 x 27 x 3 cm grow tray
1. Sow enough seeds to cover your growing surface. Roughly 15 grams for a standard 53x27x3cm tray
2. Lay a thin layer of coco peat and perlite mixture in a tray. You can also add compost to the grow mix for added nutrients. Cover the surface area with seeds. Ad another tray (preferably without holes) on top of the planted seeds and medium. Add some weight in the form of a small tile or stone. This helps to form strong roots and get rid of unwanted seed hulls.
3. Keep wet with a spray bottle until almost all seeds have germinated. Remove top tray and flip over to place greens into blackout. This helps the stems to lengthen.
4. After about 1 to 2 days place the tray into light. This could be into artificial light, sunlight. An exposed windowsill will work just fine.
5. Make sure they have enough water each day. They should be ready within 10 to 14 days
Growing Notes:
Watch the seeds closely while germinating. If any mouldy bits appear, remove them immediately. If you have Hydrogen Peroxide available, spray the infected spot with the solution.
