Carrot Microgreens
Carrot microgreens.
They have a mild and earthy flavour. Very similar to mature carrots. They are very attractive and flavourful. Great when used fresh on burgers, wraps, steak dishes and salads. They have a fine green stem and leaf. The true leaf is a typical frond seen on the mature leaves. The frond has a green feathery appearance.
Difficulty level: Easy
Germination: 3-4 days
Total grow: 14-21days
Sow weight: 8-10 grams per standard 53 x 27 x 3 cm grow tray
1. Sow enough seeds to cover your growing surface. Roughly 8-10 grams for a standard 53x27x3cm tray
2. Lay a thin layer of coco coir and perlite mixture in a tray. Cover the surface area with seeds. Ad another tray (preferably without holes) on top of the planted seeds and medium. Add some weight in the form of a small tile or stone. This helps to form strong roots and get rid of unwanted seed hulls.
3. Keep wet with a spray bottle until almost all seeds have germinated. Remove top tray and flip over to place greens into blackout. This helps the stems to lengthen. Stems should lengthen to 1 to 2cm maximum. If you are experiencing mould during blackout, move greens to light when the stems are only 1/2 cm long.
4. After about 1 to 2 days place the tray into light. This could be into artificial light, sunlight. An exposed windowsill will work just fine.
5. Make sure they have enough water each day. Do not overwater. They should be ready within 14 to 21 days.
Growing Notes:
Carrot microgreens are a lot finer than other microgreens. They grow slower and require less water. Do not overwater. The grow medium must just be moist and not soggy.
